The Selection Process

From 1 February to 30 April 2011, nominations were invited from institutions and organisations with a demonstrable commitment to education, such as universities, schools, colleges, teachers' organisations, research facilities, international organisations, non-governmental organisations, government bodies, the media and private corporations. Certain individuals of internationally high repute were also asked to submit their nominations.

Nominees were screened by an 11-person WISE Prize Commitee which made a pre-selection of 12, whose names will remain confidential.

A prestigious Jury of five distinguished individuals evaluated the 12 final nominations and selected the inaugural Laureate, Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, who was awarded the Prize at the Opening Session of the WISE 2011 Summit on November 1, 2011.
