In the context of accelerating political, economic, social, technological and environmental developments, it is vital to significantly rethink and renew education so that all learners can acquire the knowledge and competencies they will need.

However, to do this successfully, we will require innovative approaches and collaborative efforts across sectors and national boundaries, which will both ensure access and improve quality and relevance.

In this opening session, the panel considered the imperatives for change and set the context for the Summit discussions on the challenges facing education and ways to overcome shared constraints.

It would be useful if the panel focuses on change management and how to initiate change. The education community, to a large extent, understands the imperatives for change. Where we fail is to successfully implement that change.
