Professor Hindi has been President of Birzeit University in Palestine since the start of academic year 2010–2011. From 2008 to 2010, he was Associate Dean and Professor of Management Science at Olayan School of Business, American University of Beirut (AUB). From 2002 to 2008, he was Professor of Engineering Management at The Faculty of Engineering, and simultaneously Professor of Management Science at Olayan School of Business at AUB. From 1998 to 2002, he was Professor of Systems Engineering at Brunel University, England. Prior to October 1998, he taught at the University of Manchester for 10 years and South Bank University, London, for 8 years.

Professor Hindi holds a BEng, an MSc and a PhD, all in Electrical Engineering, as well as a DSc in Management Science. He has published numerous research papers in both engineering and management science in high-impact international journals.

Professor Hindi is active in voluntary work. Most notably, he is member of the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Palestine Studies, a member of the Board of trustees of the Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy (Miftah), and a former Chairperson of the Association of the Palestinian Community in the UK. He also writes occasionally in Palestinian and Arab Affairs.
