The WISE Awards 2009 recognise and celebrate education projects and initiatives that have demonstrated real and positive impact on Pluralism, Sustainability or Innovation within education.
Applications are invited from individuals or teams of individuals working in all sectors of education, all types of organisation, and from any part of the world to recognise existing outstanding educational achievements. All applications must be endorsed by a senior officer of the relevant organisation.
Individuals may only submit a single application and should indicate for which of the three prizes categories they are applying (“Pluralism” or “Sustainability” or ”Innovation”). Other individuals working from the same organisation are allowed to submit different applications for different educational activities, providing these are also endorsed by their organisation.
All applicants must show in their application how their activities have delivered on the following seven general criteria:
1. Creativity: extent to which the activity presents a creative or novel way of addressing educational objectives
2. Financial viability: extent to which the educational activity is funded in a sustainable way to ensure its future viability
3. Scalability and replicability: extent to which the educational activity already has national or regional impact, or whether there is clear evidence of scalablilty and replicability
4. Clarity of proposal: extent to which proposal is clearly intelligible, and conforms to the requirements of the application process
5. Multi-disciplinarity: extent to which the educational activity has application beyond a single discipline
6. Partnership and participation: extent to which the educational activity involves partners and participation from beneficiaries and stakeholders
7. Dissemination: extent to which the organisations involved are already effectively disseminating and sharing their educational practices with other practitioners
In addition, three specific criteria have been used to judge applications under each of the three WISE prize categories as follows: for the category “Pluralism”: equality of access, diversity, and respect and understanding; for the category “Sustainability”: governance and accreditation, quality control, contribution to global societies; and for the category ”Innovation”: access to learning, innovation in practice, and ability to address diversity of challenges.
Selection of the Laureates has been held in consideration of these objective criteria.
