Professor Ingrid Moses has been the Chancellor of the University of Canberra since January 2006 following her retirement as Vice-Chancellor of the University of New England, a position she held for 8 1/2 years.
After her first degree in social sciences from the German university of Erlangen-Nuernberg she moved to Australia with her Australian husband. In Australia, she obtained degrees from the University of Queensland (MA, PhD) and during a successful academic career as a reseacher and leader in higher education received honorary doctorates from UTS and the State University of California, Sacramento for her work in higher and international education.
She has published several books and dozens of articles. She has done extensive consultative work in and on higher education in many countries and for international organisations like the OECD, IHME and UNESCO and has worked as an auditor of higher education institutions internally. She was on the Council of the United Nations University for six years and President of the International Association of University Presidents, 2002-2005. In 2003 she was awarded the Centennial medal for her contribution to rural education.
She is presently the section editor for Higher Education of the forthcoming 3rd International Encyclopedia of Education, to be published by Elsevier in 2010.
