Dr. B. Mbambo-Thata is the Executive Director, Library Services, University of South Africa. Prior to that, she was University Librarian, University of Zimbabwe. She is a Steering Committee member of the Library Network of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), the Chairperson of the Africa Section of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and Chairperson of the E-Knowledge Society for Women in Southern Africa (EKOWISA).
She is the immediate past Chairperson of the Zimbabwe University Libraries Consortium, and was an Advisory Board Member of eIFL.net from 2004 to 2007 and Advisory Board Member of the Access to Learning Award, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, in 2004 and 2007.
She has extensive knowledge of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) environment in Africa through her involvement with African Libraries. She has been involved with library consortium building in a number of African countries including Nigeria, Ghana, Lesotho, Zimbabwe and Zambia. She is a sought-after speaker at conferences relating to the innovative use of ICT in libraries and higher education. Her research interests are in information literacy, women and ICT. She holds a DPhil in Information Science.
