Dr. Bonaventure Mvé-Ondo (born 1942 in Oyem, Gabon) has spent his entire career working on developing and transition countries, with a strong focus on Africa by leading a double university and administrative career. He graduated in Letters and Human Sciences from the University of Bordeaux III (state examination, doctorate in Philosophy).
Dr. Mvé-Ondo is Professor of Comparative Philosophy at the University of Omar Bongo (UOB) in Libreville. He is also a Visiting Professor at many universities (Liège, Paris etc.). He was a co-founder of several laboratories and research centers (LUTO – UOB, CERGEP – UOB). He is member of the Review Committee of the French CNRS scientific publication “HERMES”. He has published widely on all aspects of higher education policy, and more recently in Afrique: la fracture scientifique, Futuribles (2005), “Rationalité scientifique et diversité culturelle”, in Diogène, N° 219, July 2007.
As leader of university cooperation and administration, he was appointed the Dean of the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences of Omar Bongo University of which he also became Vice-Rector and Rector. He then became Director of the Africa Office and the Office of West Africa of the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) in Dakar. He is currently Vice-Rector – Partnerships, at the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie and, in July 2009, was appointed Director of University Governance at the African Universities Institute, a joint project of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and the AUF.
