Bangladesh

Jesmin, from Bangladesh, has a proven record of championing and creating change within her community. She was raised in a small town in Bangladesh and pursued a bachelor’s degree in public health with a minor in development studies from the Asian University for Women. While at AUW Jesmin was selected as one of Wedu’s ‘Rising Stars’, a mentoring program for a select group of women across Asia with strong leadership potential. She also participated in South Asia Youth Environment Network Regional Summit in Thimphu, Bhutan, in 2013, as well as the Women Deliver Global Conference in Copenhagen in 2016. She also completed a summer course on political philosophy and economics at the University of Hong Kong.  Jesmin worked on maternal and infant health with the international NGO Caritas and the International Centre for Diarrheal Disease Research in Bangladesh. She worked as a Peer Health Educator to guide students in accessing available health resources while in university. As a faculty research assistant, she worked on the Urban Database and Social Entrepreneurship Project. On graduation, Jesmin joined the UN World Food Programme in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. She works to empower women living in extreme poverty, and helps implement a food voucher program in two registered refugee camps. Currently, she is working to improve food security, nutrition and the resilience of vulnerable people in the south coastal areas of Bangladesh. Jesmin aspires to work at the WFP’s headquarters in Rome.
