Dr. Mona Mourshed
Mona is a Director with McKinsey & Company and leads the Global Education Practice. She has supported education systems and institutions across the Middle East, Asia, United States, Europe, and Latin America to achieve significant and sustained gains in their education performance.
Mona is the lead author of “How the World’s Most Improved School Systems Keep Getting Better” (2010) and is co-author of “How the World’s Best-Performing School Systems Come Out on Top” (2007). Both reports have been widely cited in the media and in the education field, and Mona has been invited to speak about these reports in over 40 countries around the world. She was also the lead author of “Education for Employment: Realizing Arab Youth Potential” (2011), a report commissioned by the International Finance Corporation and the Islamic Development Bank. Mona is currently working on major global research regarding youth skills and job market readiness, spanning nine countries and three stakeholder groups (youth, education providers, and employers).
Mona has a B.A. in Development Studies from Stanford University, where she graduated with high honors. She went on to earn a Ph.D. in Economic Development from MIT, where she received nationally competitive fellowships. Mona has received multiple external awards, including recent selection as one of Fortune Magazine’s “40 under 40”, an annual listing of “the 40 hottest young stars in business under the age of 40” for her global impact in education (2011). Mona holds American and Egyptian citizenship.
