Omer Bartov is a scholar and Dean’s Professor of Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Brown University. He has written extensively on war crimes, interethnic relations, and genocide. His recent books, published in multiple languages, include Anatomy of a Genocide: The Life and Death of a Town Called Buczacz (2018), which won the National Jewish Book Award, and Genocide, the Holocaust, and Israel-Palestine: First-Person History in Times of Crisis (2023), named a Choice 2024 Outstanding Academic Title.

Bartov’s essays and commentaries have appeared widely in national and international publications and media outlets. His forthcoming book, Israel: What Went Wrong?, will be published in spring 2026 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux (FSG) in the United States and by Penguin Random House in the United Kingdom, as well as in several European languages and in Chinese. His novel, The Butterfly and the Axe, was published in 2023 in both the United States and Israel.
