Pianist and Composer
Nicolas Namoradze is a pianist and composer who serves on the piano and chamber music faculty of the CUNY Graduate Center. He came to international prominence after winning the 2018 Honens International Piano Competition, and his recordings have earned major distinctions including the Choc de Classica, Gramophone Editor’s Choice, and top placements in the UK classical charts.
Namoradze performs internationally at leading venues such as Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall, Konzerthaus Berlin, and Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, and has appeared with orchestras including the London Philharmonic, Budapest Festival Orchestra, Sinfonieorchester Basel, San Antonio Symphony, and the RAI Orchestra. He has held recent residencies at the Konzerthaus Dortmund, Verbier Festival, Cleveland Institute of Music, and Sarasota Music Festival.
Recognized as Pianist of the Year by the UK Critics’ Circle and named a Musical America New Artist, BBC Music Magazine Rising Star, and Gramophone One to Watch, he was recently highlighted by medici.tv among “history’s most celebrated pianists.”
A dedicated scholar, Namoradze integrates music cognition and neuroscience into his artistic work. His doctoral research on mathematical models of musical perception appears in his book Ligeti’s Macroharmonies (Springer), and he develops interdisciplinary recital formats and digital projects exploring perspectives on music from the cognitive sciences.
