Soraya Fatima Salam

Soraya Salam is an award-winning international journalist, digital media executive, and newsroom leader. As Editor-in-Chief of Al Jazeera English Online, she leads global news and current affairs teams overseeing content across aljazeera.com and its digital platforms.

Under her leadership, Al Jazeera English Online has been recognized with a Peabody Award and multiple Edward R. Murrow Awards for its coverage of major international events, including the Gaza war, the fall of Bashar al-Assad in Syria, and the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan. In 2023, she was named Editorial Executive of the Year by the Drum Online Media Awards.

In 2015, Soraya helped launch TRT World, Turkey’s first English-language international news channel, where she built out its news division and led current affairs programming and digital strategy. She has also directed and produced documentaries across the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and the United States, as well as in-depth interviews with some of the world’s leading political figures and thinkers.
