James Crabtree is a Senior Visiting Fellow at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore, and a Contributing Editor at the Financial Times. Until May 2016, James led coverage of corporate India for the FT as Mumbai Bureau chief, having previously worked on the opinion page in London, as Comment Editor. He is now on sabbatical at the LKY School, where he is a senior fellow at the Centre on Asia and Globalization. His forthcoming book on India, The Billionaire Raj, will be published by Random House in mid-2018.

Before joining the FT, James was deputy editor of Prospect, Britain's leading monthly long-form magazine of politics and ideas. He has written for a range of other global publications, including the Economist, Wired, Foreign Policy and Foreign Affairs. Prior to journalism, he worked as a senior policy adviser in the British Prime Minister's Strategy Unit under Prime Ministers Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. He has also worked at various think tanks in London and Washington DC, and spent a number of years living in the United States, initially as a Fulbright Scholar at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
