Learning World: School Rankings

School Rankings: Bridging the Gap

School rankings are an important criteria for parents when considering their children’s education. In many parts of the world school rankings are based on national exam results. However, this system, which sees private schools topping the leader boards, is being critized because of its unfair comparison between public and private schools that benefit from more favorable conditions for success. In this episode of Learning World, we take you to Portugal to see if school rankings reflect reality and how fair this approach really is.

School Rankings: Failing Yesterday, Thriving Today

Is it possible to transform a failing school into a competitive one? If so, what steps need to be taken to boost academic achievement? In this episode of Learning World, we take you to Germany to see an example of how school performance can be turned on its head. In a poor neighbourhood of Berlin, a middle school close to having to shut down recently merged with a neighbouring elementary school to share a single campus, and a more comprehensive education project. Campus Efeuweg is a good illustration of what can be done to save failing schools.
