About the Project
Partners for Possibility (PfP), the flagship programme of Symphonia for South Africa, is a leadership development initiative designed to improve the quality of basic education in South Africa and achieve long-term sustainable improvement in the lives of South Africa’s learners and their communities.
Recognizing that quality education is the key to breaking South Africa’s vicious cycle of poverty, PfP works to achieve this by focusing on school principals, the people tasked with leading school communities and creating environments that support high quality teaching and learning.
PfP partners school principals from under-resourced schools with experienced business leaders and offers cutting-edge leadership training to develop strong school leadership. The primary objective of the programme is to capacitate principals to lead change and mobilize parents and other community members to become actively involved in schools.
The PfP programme is a frugal model that taps into the resources developed by the business sector to equip school principals with the knowledge and skills to lead and collaborate effectively for the benefit of their schools and communities. Through their partnerships with business leaders, principals also receive practical support as they embark on a change journey at their schools. The two leaders work together to make a sustainable impact on the school community and on the quality of education provided by the school.
In 2018, primarily due to the impact of the PfP programme, Symphonia for South Africa was ranked by Geneva-based NGO Advisor as one of the Top100 NGO’s in the world – the only South African organisation in the top 100.
