Learning Reimagined: Advancing AI-Enabled Transformation in Higher Education
Artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping practices across fields and contexts, requiring swift adoption and a depth of knowledge to stay abreast of current trends. For higher education in particular, Generative AI (GenAI) is impacting teaching, learning, and workforce preparation. This underscores the need for a clearer understanding of its role within universities, its effective integration into pedagogical practices, and its potential to strengthen the transition from education to employment.
The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) and the Institute of International Education (IIE) conducted a comparative analysis of seven global case studies, focusing on AI integration in higher education systems across Colombia, Ghana, India, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Spain, and the United States.
This policy brief highlights the findings from comparative global case studies and presents actionable recommendations and implications for policymakers. Practical support for educators and administrators in using AI should expand, but faculty continue to face resistance, trust issues, and discipline-specific ethical concerns. Learners are already using AI across contexts, and institutions must partner with industry to prepare them as ethical users and informed decision-makers. Growing ethical concerns highlight the need for clearer cross-sector frameworks to ensure AI complements—rather than replaces—human knowledge and capabilities.
