Prof. Paul Teng

Professor Paul Teng is Dean, Graduate Studies and Professional Learning, National Institute of Education (NIE, www.nie.edu.sg), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. As Dean, he is responsible for innovating and offering professional development programs for all Singapore teachers in the areas of academic higher degrees, leadership and in-service learning. He was also Head of Natural Sciences and Science Education at NIE prior to being appointed Dean.  

His current professional interests are in adult professional development and learning, science-based entrepreneurship, sustainable development and food security. Professor Teng is concurrently Adjunct Senior Fellow (Food Security), S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (www.rsis.edu.sg), and Chair, Asia BioBusiness Pte. Ltd.  He was previously at the WorldFish Center, Malaysia, as Deputy Director-General (Research), at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Philippines as Program Leader for Cross-Ecosystems Research and at Monsanto Company as Vice President Asia-Pacific. 

Professor Teng has been a Professor at the University of Hawaii and the University of Minnesota, USA. His service appointments currently include being member of the Board, Singapore Science Center, and Malaysian Biotechnology Information Center, and Vice-Chairman of the Board, International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA, www.isaaa.org). 

Professor Teng has published over 250 technical papers and eight books and won awards such as the Eriksson Prize in Plant Pathology and the 2001 CGIAR Excellence in Science Award for Outstanding Scientific Article. He is a Fellow of the Third World Academy of Sciences and Fellow, American Phytopathological Society. Professor Teng is a graduate of Lincoln College, University of Canterbury, New Zealand.
