Dr. David Nostbakken

Dr. David Nostbakken is a renowned strategist and entrepreneur in sustainable development, communications and education. His innovative approaches have shaped government policies, mobilized social change and brought into being a number of enterprises to enhance the human condition, including China Green Channel International, the first multi-platform media network on the environment in China, and Ecology Global Network, a joint Canada-USA multimedia service on the environment at www.ecology.com. Both ventures target young people and students.

Dr. Nostbakken was Founding President of WETV Network International, a global network on sustainable development, carried worldwide through 50 broadcast partners. In his former role as Director of Communications with Canada’s International Development Research Centre, he inaugurated a teachers’ institute bringing educators to Costa Rica for a practicum in developing environmental curriculum. He also played a principal part in pioneering support centers for environmental journalists and broadcasters telling stories on sustainable development in Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa.

As a consultant, Dr. Nostbakken specializes in creative strategies for educational outreach for clients such as World Wildlife Fund, Ecology Global Campus Network, Commonwealth of Learning, UNESCO, the United Nations and the World Health Organization. Dr. Nostbakken has a Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in educational theory, specializing in communication, from the University of Toronto, where he was teaching assistant to Marshall McLuhan. His research and teaching at university level have since focused on effective uses of new technologies for public education and social change. He currently teaches at the School of Journalism and Communication, Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada.
