Dr. Jeffrey Burns

Jeffrey P. Burns, MD, MPH is Chief of Critical Care at Boston Children's Hospital and Professor of Anesthesia (Pediatrics) at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Burns is board certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics. He has also established and is the Executive Director of the Children’s Hospital Simulator Program, one of the first hospital based pediatric simulator programs in the United States, and holds many national leadership positions in the field, including as Chair of the American Board of Pediatrics Sub-board for Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. His research has focused in two domains, ethics controversies and educational innovation in pediatric intensive care, which have been the topics of his numerous national and international lectures.

Last, in 2007 Dr. Burns established and is now Co-Director of the OPENPediatrics program, an interactive digital learning platform for physicians and nurses sponsored by Boston Children's Hospital and in collaboration with the World Federation of Pediatric Intensive and Critical Care Societies, designed to promote the exchange of knowledge between physicians and nurses around the world caring for critically ill children in all resource settings.
