Professor Joseph Paré has been Minister of Secondary Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research in Burkina Faso since 6 January 2006. He is one of the main instigators of the educational system reform that is currently under way in Burkina Faso.
Joseph Paré is a tenured Professor of Semiotics and has taught at Ouagadougou University since 1988. He was President of Ouagadougou University from 2004 to 2006, Vice-President in charge of the professionalisation of training courses of study and university-company relations from 2000 to 2004, and Director of Administration, Information and Orientation at Ouagadougou University from 1998 to 2000. He has been Invited and/or Associate Professor in different universities in Africa, Europe and the United States and has supervised doctoral theses and MA dissertations in various universities.
Professor Paré is the author of many scientific books and articles, including Ecriture et discours romanesque francophone post-colonial (1997) and La Francophonie en Afrique subsaharienne (2001).
Professor Paré holds the Senghor Chair in Francophonie at Ouagadougou University, is an Associate of the Research Team into Recycling Culture (Montreal University), Coordinator of the Research Team into Discursive Practices in the French-Speaking Sahel Area, Member of the Scientific Committee of the Network of Sahel Literatures, and instigator of the reforms to implement the Licence-Master-Doctorat (LMD) system in the universities of West Africa. Joseph Paré is an honorary doctor of the Norman Academy and Yorker International University. He is Officier of the Ordre National in Burkina and Chevalier of the Ordre international des Palmes Académiques of the Conseil Africain et malgache pour l’Enseignement supérieur (CAMES).
