Omar Al-Tal

Head of Education, Mercy Corps


Omar Al-Tal is a humanitarian aid worker with experience in Jordan, Greece and Iraq. Specialized in education, child protection, youth programming and psycho-social assistance, Omar currently manages Mercy Corps Education portfolio in Iraq after managing a child protection program in Zaatari and Azraq refugee camps in Jordan. His work focuses that youth of Iraq are empowered with increased access to formal education and vocational training. Omar also manages Mercy Corps’ adolescent girls center in Jordan, which supports girl-centered and girl-led programming.

Previously, Omar coordinated a wide range of emergency programs focused on water and sanitation, protection and cash-based assistance with Mercy Corps and the International Rescue Committee in Jordan and in Greece. Passionate about  putting forward the voices of youth, adolescents and children as advocates for peace, Omar aims to be a catalyst in the lives of children, adolescents and youth, supporting their efforts to define safe spaces, build self-reliance and enforce the sense of belonging through education and emotional support. A frequent speaker on youth and children’s issues, Omar previously presented at a wide range of venues, including the 2018 International Philanthropy Forum in San-Francisco, hosted by Kofi Anan. Omar studied Business administration at Yarmouk University in Jordan, and holds a diploma in International Organization management, from the German Jordan university.
