H.E Serigne Mbaye Thiam
Minister of National Education of Senegal
Serigne Mbaye Thiam is Minister of National Education of Senegal, and was elected Vice Chair by the Board of Directors of the Global Partnership of Education (GPE) in May 2018. Minister Thiam has held numerous positions in Senegal since 1996, including Deputy and Minister of Higher Education and Research. He recently implemented new technologies in the learning process in Senegal (SIMEN), which is a revolution in the education system in Africa.
Minister Thiam has also extensively worked in the private sector, consulting, accounting and corporate finance and served as Chief Financial and Administrative Officer at the Autonomous Port of Dakar between 1987 and 1998. Minister Thiam is also the President of UNESCO’s National Commission for Senegal and represents his country on the UNESCO’s Executive board.
