Silvana Veinberg has a degree in Speech Therapy and an MS from Purdue University, USA. In 1987 she received a scholarship from the American Association of University Women and in 1990 a studentship to research LSA linguistics in Argentina. Since 1995 she has been developing educational projects for deaf people and advises schools for the deaf in Argentina and other Latin American countries. From 2000 to 2003 she served as Technical Chief of deaf schools in the province of Buenos Aires and from 2008 to 2012 she advised on deaf education as part of the National Ministry of Education. In 2003 she was elected a Fellow of Ashoka; the same year she founded Canales, an organization in which deaf and hearing people work together for an accessible and quality education for deaf children.
