Brendan O’Malley is a journalist, author and research consultant, who reports on education development and conflict. As a research consultant Mr O’Malley has written two global studies published by UNESCO on the issue of violent attacks on education and is currently leading the research on a third global study, this time for the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack. Mr O’Malley has also spoken in many international meetings on the subject including the UN General Assembly thematic debate on education in emergencies. He was a consultant on the Global Education Cluster’s Protecting Education in Conflict-Affected Countries project, and other related projects for Education Above All (now PEIC)  and Education International. As a journalist, Mr O’Malley’s current roles include Chairman of University World News, the global news website on higher education. He is a former international editor of The Times Educational Supplement, for which he reported from a wide range of countries on education and development and led editorial campaigns on Education for All globally and the Back to School drive in Afghanistan.
