Ms Silvina Gvirtz

General Director and Founder, Escuelas del Bicentenario of International Institute for Educational Planning of the UNESCO

Argentina

Silvina Gvirtz is a Doctor in Education. She was Director of the School of Education at the University of San Andrés and has published more than 20 books and many articles for renowned international journals on education.  In 2003, she received the Guggenheim Fellowship and has won many other national awards. The turning-point in her career came in 2001 as a result of the severe crisis affecting Argentina. This disheartening reality led her to implement concrete projects to help vulnerable schools and to actively advocate for equal opportunities in her country. For this reason, apart from leading the project and working within schools, she is also a board member of several civil society organizations and often writes op-eds for the most important national newspapers.
