Kamkalima

This initiative is part of the 2019-20 WISE Accelerator Cohort.

What they do

Kamkalima delivers high interest digital content in Arabic that is aligned with national and international curricula and covers the key language competencies of reading, writing, and listening.  Kamkalima also offers learning and assessment tools, and deep data analytics to help teachers in lesson preparation, student progress reporting and follow up, and most importantly assessment of and for learning. Kamkalima helps a teacher not only capture students’ grades, but also brings focus on areas of weakness for interventions toward better learning outcomes.

Why it matters

One of the major problems that Arabic teachers globally face is the lack of relevant quality resources. The content of national curricula and learning material does not properly prepare learners in the Arab world in acquiring the skills and critical thinking that our rapidly changing global economies require. Language learning is the gateway towards any skill acquisition. Teachers in the Arab world are in daring need for tools that can help them revive teaching and learning of Arabic.

Traction so far

Over 20,000 students and more than 450 teachers across nine Arab countries benefit from Kamkalima. The team is focused on expanding across the Arab world to ensure all those learning Arabic will learn the language in an effective and engaging way.
